Well that was quick

The rehearsal upload finished faster than I’d expected. The set is now part of the aforementioned Wedding Collection. You can click here to access the rehearsal set directly.

The honeymoon photos will be a wee bit slower in appearing (I’m still editing them). My plan is to serialize our travels (on a day-by-day basis) and post the photos as each day’s story appears, so keep checking here for updates.

Let’s get this thing started…

So it’s been a while since anyone anywhere has said anything on this space. The main website has started to stagnate: the store locator seems to be broken, and the photo viewer needs updating badly. It would appear we’ve fallen off the face of the earth. What could possibly have distracted us so badly?

How did they know???

About two weeks ago, I gave some info to the Temple Daily Telegram regarding announcing our engagement.  The online form said they would contact us prior to publishing.  We hadn’t heard anything, so we figured it wouldn’t come out that week.  On Sunday, February 15th, I woke up to phone calls letting me know that it was in the paper!!

I didn’t have this realization until a week after the announcement came out, but the announcement coincided with the exact six year anniversary of our first date – our bike ride and picnic at Lions Park on February 15, 2003!  I didn’t look at the calendar when I submitted the form to the Temple Daily Telegram.  How did they know???  I didn’t even realize it when it first came out, but I’ll take it as a good sign :)

Birthday Present Video

On an upnote, I finally figured out how to upload videos to YouTube (these kids and their newfangled technologies). I’ll probably be throwing some stuff up that might be interesting to readers. If I ever get around to it, a Thanksgiving post with pictures and video from the A&M game might be cool, as will video of whatever Rebecca and I decide to do for New Year’s (she’ll be in Seattle!). We might also post wedding videos or whatever else cool we find.

For now, enjoy the wonderful Leatherman Charge, the gift Rebecca got me for my birthday (November 5th for all you who don’t celebrate this Christmas-in-November). It came in handy trying to open some stupid lightbulb packaging.

Technical Difficulties

Recently a friend gave me an extra copy of Left 4 Dead he had ordered so that I could play alongside him online. Because games don’t run so hot in VMWare, I repartitioned my hard drive to allow Boot Camp to do its thing. The dual-boot seems to work and I get to gaming. So far so good.

Co-op zombie apocalypse fun for ages 17 and up!

Co-op zombie apocalypse fun for ages 17 and up!

But signs had already started appearing that not all was well: during the Boot Camp process, I noticed my filesystem had some issues that I (wrongly) believed were fixable. I ran a repair utility and kept on gaming, forgetting anything was ever wrong.

Pictures of (Pandas Painting) People

The about page now has some photos on it. Enjoy. And a new gallery will go up in the photos page tomorrow night.

I’m considering jumping ship from our lightbox clone to a more proper one. You know, one that doesn’t require you to break the lexical rules of a rel attribute just to make a gallery. Also, I have some frustrations to vent to the Firefox team, but I’ll save those for later.

If anyone doesn’t like their headshot, file a bug report :-D .

A Discovery and a Wish

And while I’m on the topic, I’ve recently discovered a new juice I quite like: Ocean Spray’s 100% Juice Cranberry & Blueberry. It’s delicious and won some sort of award last year.

One aisle over a certain item keeps tempting me: San Saba River Pecan Company’s Apple and Pecan Preserve. Unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to spend the $7.99 it costs here. If a fellow Texan could help out this new Seattleite, they’d surely receive some nice coffee beans in return.

Produce Patriotism

A Pike Place Vendor

A Pike Place Vendor

While shopping at the grocery store today, I was reminded of a line from Persepolis in which the recently emigrated protagonist sees her frequency of visits to the grocer as indicative of a need to go out and meet people. Well, perhaps I should find a few more friends in my new city, but I can’t help it: I really like going grocery shopping.

Typographic Commandments

While researching to help me define the typographic style of our main webpage, I came across a section in a book which seemed relevant to weddings.

3.4.1 To the marriage of type and text, both parties bring their cultural presumptions, dreams and family obligations. Accept them.

Each text, each manuscript (and naturally, each language and each alphabet) has its own requirements and expectations. Some types are more adaptable than others in meeting these demands. But typefaces too have their individual habits and presumptions. Many of them, for instance, are rich with historical and regional connections… For the moment, consider just the sociology and alliances of typefaces. What kinds of families and alliances do they form?

This passage is from Bringhurst’s definitive The Elements of Typographic Style, of course. It got me to wondering: What typefaces are we? Which are our families? Does this metaphor actually hold any water, or am I just up way too late? I’ll give it some thought in the morning.

Rehearsal Dinner Chosen

But I’m not telling where. We think you’re really going to like it, though. If you’re a member of the wedding party, see you there!

P.S. – If you know where it is, don’t spoil the surprise for others!
